Liberal Democrats: A Vision for Swindon

Swindon Council and the Arms Trade

8.32.39pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 31st May 2006

This is an open letter calling upon the Leader of Swindon Borough Council to agree to an investigation into the Wiltshire Pension Fund.

Dear Cllr Bluh,

As I am sure you are aware, the Wiltshire Pension Fund (Wiltshire County Council, County Hall, Trowbridge BA14 8JJ) was recently found by CAAT (Campaign Against Arms Trade) to have invested money - nearly £3 million - in a company that supply arms to foreign companies.

I have serious concerns about the ethics of this means of investing Swindon Borough Council employees pension contributions.

It may also be advisable to seek clarification from Wiltshire County Council about whether there are any investments they have not supplied information on?

I feel certain that you are as concerned about this as I am, and look forward to your response on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Cllr Dave Wood

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Eastcott ward
