Nicky Sewell, 24, of Old Town has been announced as the new Chair of the Swindon Liberal Democrats.

This announcement is the latest in a succession of young people being chosen as the best people for their job by the local and national Liberal Democrat party.

In May 2006 Cllr Dave Wood was elected in Eastcott ward, Dave is also 24.

Ben Farrant, 21 at the time, was appointed Election Agent for the Liberal Democrat candidates in the 2005 General Election.

Nationally, Britain's two youngest MPs (Jo Swinson, 26 and Julia Goldsworthy, 27) were elected as Liberal Democrats in 2005, and have since then joined the front bench team at Westminster.

Swindon Liberal Democrat Chair Nicky Sewell commented:

"Democracy should always ensure that the most capable, willing person should be chosen for any position. Young people often find that their path is blocked in political life; we are proud to have consistently attracted young people to become involved in the community."
